churchills response

I agree with Churchill when he makes the statement " I am Irish, and I'm not offended that Notre Dame's mascot is a leprechaun". I agree with his statement because a mascot is a symbol of a schools pride. Anything a school picks for a mascot, is picked because they feel that the symbol will represent the school the best. I personally do not think that a school will pick something that they think is degrading to themselves or anyone who attends the school. A mascot is used to symbolize what the school means, any meaning behind the mascot is usually positive, so no one should ever be offended by the mascot because it does not carry a negative message but it carries a positive one. It shows the pride and spirit of the school.

Cruelty civility and other weighty matters

Studies have shown that if both a fat person and a thin person apply for a job, the skinny person is more likely to get that job. The over weight person could be more qualified for the job than the skinny person but, often at times they will not get the job because the skinny person is more attractive than they are. This shows that our culture values appears over quality and that view on life is " out of whack". It is both cruel and unfair for someone to be tuned down for a job, just because they are out of shape and or because they are not as attractive as the competing applicants. This hurts people and discourages them. When you are the "boss" of a company you should not be hiring people based off of what they look like ( unless it is in the fashion industry of course) people should be hired off of their work skills and how or what they can or will contribute to your company.

the first paper

As of right now, I think that my paper is just " ok". I dont think that it is neither all the way bad or good. There is definantly room for improvement, and I am sure that there are many errors to be corrected.

hunting

The point that I find most interesting is the fact that most hunters only hunt for "sport" in todays time. It used to be that men hunted for a reason and for food, some type of purpose instead of just for fun. It intreast me because I cant understand why people would just kill an animal that has done nothing to them just because they can. I find these actions indecent and more restrictions should be installed for the hunting population. I am also interested when Causey states that hunters must think and act ethically when it comes to hunting. When is hunting actually ehtical. Is it ethical to kill deer just because there are too many of them? Who decides what is ethical and what is not

computers in the classroom

During my highschool years, I have worked with many childeren. It seems to me as if they learned more when they were doing hands on activities. The kids liked the computer activities but soon they got bored with them. With this knowlege my opinion on whether there should be less computers in the classroom is, yes there should be less computers in the class. I feel that putting computers in a class is taking away from the teacher in that class who worked so hard to get their degree and I find it very unfair. Computers can interfear with learning also because the kids may get distracted and unfocused because the computers are in the classroom. I know when I was younger having a computer in the class seemed to be the biggest thing ever. Everyone wanted to get on the computer, we used to try to rush our teacher to finish the lesson so that our computer time could be longer. Computers are a distraction and the less computers in a room the less distraction and the less distraction the more learning. Education could be better throughout the whole nation if there were fewer computers in the classrooms, at least in my opinion. Less computers mean better learning, better learning means better education in each classroom.

Bo's paper

The paper I evaluated today was Bo's oil paper. His paper was slightly disorganized and so I told him that he needed to organize it a little better. I told him about his word usage, for example he would use the word worst when he should have used worse. I showed him sentances in the paper that made statements that contradicted other statements that were made in the paper. From this paper learned or at least I realized how important organization in a argument is. If a article that is trying to prove a point is confusing how could the reader take the author side. Disorganization makes the author look like they dont know what they're talking about and therefore the reader will disregard their article and not take them seriously.

abortion essay opinion

Im not quite sure where I stand with my paper. I think that the beginning of my paper is good and that it will require little revision, but when it comes to the end of my paper I think that I tried to end it to abrubtly and I dont have a clear conclusion. It was really hard for me to write this side of the argument because I am not for abortion. I had to find a way to take my own ideas about the situation and then create ideas from it that would sound like a pro life campaigner.
